The Grand Lux Cafe - 4.8.08 :: Rants ::
|
Remember my Job Search blog? When I said the Grand Lux Cafe seemed like a great opportunity and would make me a lot of money?
Wow, I was wrong....
Where do I start? Well, this morning I logged into TipTrack to post my $53 in tips I made last night and noticed that my shift average is currently $85, week average is $320, and I have banked a whopping $4800 in 4 months (tips only - not hourly pay). That is roughly 40% of what I was making at the Lincoln Inn…the Fucking Lincoln Inn! The biggest failure of a bar/restaurant I’ve ever worked at second to Oh! Brian’s in Greenville, NC where the owner randomly closed down at 10pm on a Thursday night because he sucked all his profits up his nose and went bankrupt.
Ok, so the money sucks. That is out of the way at least. How about my co-workers? Bartenders are all great and we have a good time. There are a few servers that are chill, one busser, one cook, and maybe a few miscellaneous employees that I can stand or might hang out with outside of work. Other than that, the place is filled with morons. It’s bad. When someone needs you to tell them which drink is the Cabernet and which is the Margarita, you know you’re working with short-bus rejects. Carrying a tray full of drinks successfully to a table? Forget it. Oh, don’t worry about those 5 blended drinks I just made for you while trying to service my whole bar top. You know the ones…with the fruit salad on-a-stick for a garnish. Wait, you dropped them because you can’t handle 5 whole drinks on a tray and I have to make them all again while working other tickets and still helping my guests? Nice. That should only completely fuck up my rhythm and probably result in me making less money because I can’t serve MY guests as well. Nice job hiring, management.
In all fairness, the management is pretty chill aside from the 24-year-old power trip alcoholic that can’t even hold a pen he shakes so bad (when he hasn’t had a drink), the GM who seems to ignore the fact that the restaurant makes no money as long as there is someone’s top button un-done that he can bitch about, or the Mexican kitchen managers who a) hate all white guys b)will fuck anything with a wet-spot and a pulse and c) suck at their jobs. At least there are a few sane managers who have a clue, or if they don’t are at least chill enough to let us do our jobs without trying to micro-manage every breath we take.
So besides making no money, hating 90% of the employees, bi-polar management, and (I forgot to mention) getting sodomized by the service bar printer all night only to receive 1.1% of sales tip-outs from servers, the Grand Lux Café is an AWESOME place to work! Fuck, I can’t wait to quit…

AAND Its Back! - 4.7.08 :: News ::
|
Ok, so its time to resurrect Chris_Blog. I have nothing better to do than sit on my computer anyway since Colorado is boring as hell right now. Summer is coming which means, girls, partying, and general debauchery. I hope to get some great stories up here soon.
Cheers, Chris
*On a side note...you'll find that most of the old blogs I had up here are gone. I still have them archived, but I didn't want to make them public anymore.

Job Search - CO - 11.12.07 :: General ::
|
Currently I am exploring a bunch of options for work out here in Colorado:
I have been interviewing with Wells Fargo for a Personal Banker position on Franktown. This is a salary position with full benefits, tuition reimbursement, etc. The only problem is this is full time and it would make finishing school a bit tricky.
Today I am going back in for my 3rd interview with the Grand Lux Cafe which is an upscale chain opening in a very wealthy area mall. The earning potential is great, especially considering that I am in the running for being a bartender. Also, being a corporation, they give full benefits and even paid vacation. This would open days (most likely) for me to finish school and I could work less while making as much as I could at Wells Fargo (not taking into account raises at the bank).
I am also heading in to a local restaurant called Rodney's which is in the midst of the wealthiest part of town. They are seeking an experienced bartender. I am not sure of the earning potential and hours, but it is a very real option for me right now.
Lastly, I have put my application in at several other local restaurants/bars which I can fall back on if the first few don't work out in my favor.
Right now, I am leaning towards the Grand Lux. They were very interested in me and the earning potential is probably the greatest vs. hours worked.
